Ancient esoteric mystery sects were highly influential to early psychologists Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud, who pieced together a lot of theories from Greek myths and fragmented Gnostic scriptures. The story of Sophia and her need to compartmentalize certain characteristics into another persona is central to Gnosticism (and many of my paintings). Using knowledge from mother, the new entity independently created the world of matter and declared it His dominion.
